Cats undergoing surgical procedures can experience significant pain. The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) recommends that veterinarians take steps to identify, prevent, and minimize pain in dogs and cats.1 Current management options include opiates as well as other analgesic classes of drugs, and METACAM—the first NSAID approved by the FDA for use in cats undergoing surgery.
